We had a good clenup day at the post on Sat. the 19.
Thanks to all that helped. The post looks good again.
We still have the potluck dinners on Wedays nights come out and have some
good food with us about 6 or so.
We plan to have a fish fry on oct.10 around 4 or so. Bring a side dish if
you want.
On Oct.the 24th we plan to cook some ribs and stuf in Charles smorker it
shoud be good also. He dont mess up much.Ha ha.
We will have the hallawen party for the kids on the 31st of Oct.
Are holiday dinner is planed Dec.19.
More ditalls later.

Notes from the 2nd Vice:
We are having a great summer here at Post 135.
There will be a cookout in August 15th at the Post at 4:00. If everyone could come up with side dishes that would be helpful.
Our Wednesday Potlucks have been a bit sparse lately because of it being summer time. So for the month of August and September we will be having potlucks on Wed. with no themes. If you want to come out and bring a dish of your choosing that is fine. On the 12th the Aux. will provide the main meal. We would welcome side dishes and desserts.
In the month of September we will be having a cleanup day/Membership Appreciation Day on the 19th. All food and drinks will be provided while they last. On the 30th our great friend Bertie Brown will make us wonderful Indian Tacos again. It will be on our potluck night and we will be charging $5.00/plate. All proceeds will go to the Vets fund.
Turkey shoots will begin on the last Sat of the month on the 26th at 10:00 sharp!!! This is shotgun 12, 16, or 20 gauge and the shells are sold at $3.00 each. Come on out and show your marksmanship.

News from the Second Vice:
Everything has been going super great! The Easter Egg Hunt went fantastic for the Members that showed up to hide the eggs. If you don't believe me check out our website at oklegionpost135.org and click on the photo album to see the great day our members, families and children had. Even the adults acted like little kids. If you missed it I hope you are here next time we have a hunt.
The clean up day was held in April and we had the most participation ever that day. Some of the crew worked until pass 3:00 that afternoon. Thanks to all that were there to help, and also thanks to the people that brought their equipment over to help. Thanks also to Shawnda and her kids for cleaning the kitchen inside.
We have quite a few rentals in the next few months with wedding and shower rentals. If you are interested in renting the hall call the Lounge. The lounge is open from 12 noon till 8 in the evening Monday through Sat. and the phone number is 456-6768.
As for the upcoming calender, Charlie is going to do brisket on June 27th at around 4:00. WE all know that Mr. Jordon does the best brisket in Cherokee County. No, "wait" if you haven't had Charlies Brisket then you wouldn't know that, would you! Bring a side and join in the fun and fellowship.
July is a month of celebration for the freedom of our Country. We will be closed on the 4th to celebrate with our family and friends. On the 18th we will be having a fish fry for our members. If you would bring a side dish to go with the fish and we will all ENJOY, Or if you would prefer to donate to the great cause that the Aux has set up for the VA that would also be great. Please join us.

Notes from the Second Vice:
We have a lot of things going on in the next two months. First I would like to remind all of our members about the Wednesday Night Potluck each week at 6:00. Each week we have a theme for that evening. If you don't know how to cook that theme, it is just an idea. Just bring a dish of your choice and come on down to your legion and enjoy the fun and fellowship of your comrades. A donation can is put out to help our Vets in the VA hospital in Muskogee and also our Vets in the area nursing homes.
The Legion along with our Aux. is having our annual Easter Egg Hunt for the children in this area. It will be held on April 11th from 9:00 am until we run out of eggs, or 10:30 which ever comes first. If you would like to help just show up. If you would like to donate eggs, candy or cash just drop it off at the lounge.
We have scheduled a clean up day for April 18th at 10:00 am. With this years weather and the ice storm the outside area needs a lot of TLC. The storage shed need some help and so do the inside storage. We can use all the help that we can get. Bring out your gardening tools and have a fun day. We will have food after the clean up. It will be fun for all.
The Aux. will be have another Yard Sale on May 1st and 2nd. They would like everyone to clean out the closets and donate their items to the sale. Anything that you would like to get rid of bring on down and the gals will put a price on it and sell it, which the proceeds will go to one of the great causes that they have worked very hard on. Just drop off your donations at the lounge. After it is over and cleaned up we will be having a egg and wild onion feed.
On May 9th we are going to have a great feed. One of our newest members is going to treat us to a Surf and Turf day. He is supplying the meat and doing all the grilling and all he is asking is that we as members supply the sides. We will eat somewhere around 4:00 that day. Come and eat and socialize with your friends.
We will also be closed on Memorial Day so each of us can spend time with our families. Another cook-out is planed for the 30th. If you want to know what it will be, you will just have to stop out at the lounge for more information.

Comments from the 2nd Vice: Carl Adams
The Aux. Spaghetti Dinner went over very well. Thanks to all that helped with the event. We had Indian Tacos at the last Wed. potluck.
Thanks to Bertie for making all the food, and also to everyone else that helped and contributed. The VA donation can did exceptionally well that evening.
Now for the upcoming events of Feb. and Mar. Feb. 7th the Aux. along with the Legioneers are hosting a Steak Cookout for Valentines. It will be from 4pm till 6pm for Members and Guests. The price is $25.00 a couple and $12.50 a single. Tickets for the event will be on sale at the Legion everyday but Sunday. Get them in advance so we know how many steaks to buy.
On the 28th there will be a Chili Cook-off. If you think you make the best chili in town make a pot and bring it down around 4:00 and let us be the judge. There will be a can in front of each pot for your vote of cash.
We will be planning more cookout as the weather warms but for now we BBQ unexpectedly if the weather happens to warm enough. Anyone that would like to come out to the Legion and grill or whatever is more than welcome to do so for everyone that is there.
March 14th we will be having our annual St. Patty's Day party. We will be serving dinner around 5:00.
On the 21st of March weather permitting we will be having a fish fry at about 5:00.
Also the Aux. is going to have their annual Easter Egg hunt in April. We are excepting donations of eggs (Large Plastic if possible) candy, and money. Last year we had a terrific turn out so we can use all the help possible.

Just a note from the 2nd Vice: Carl Adams
The Turkey Shots are still going on every Saturday at 9:00 Sharp! So far we have had a great turn out for each one.
Our annual Holiday Feast will be on Dec. 6th at 5:00. This will be a combined Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner for our Members and their families. There is a sign up sheet in the lounge for covered dishes. If you would like to stop by or call 456-6768 to list what you would like to bring, that would be great.
Don't forget about our Wed. night potlucks @ 6:00 that are for our friends in the VA hospital for a Christmas Basket of gifts.
The lounge will be closed on Christmas and on New Years Day..
We will be having a New Years Eve party again this year on Dec. 31st. Hopefully, if we have enough volunteers to cook-up a breakfast at midnight we will have a New Years feed.

Notes from the Second Vice:
Just a reminder, that the Turkey Shoots have started on Saturday Morning at 9:00 Sharp!!!! We have had two and have had great turn outs. Everyone is enjoying the shoots.
We would like to express a great thank you to Chili's and Jaimi Phalen a manager and member of our Aux. from Chili's that has donated to the free Halloween Carnival for kids a Coupon for a free kids meal that every child 12 and under will receive at the Carnival and also for the donated Chili bucks for the Turkey Shoot. It was a big contribution that everyone appreciates. If you would like to be part of the carnival we can use any help given.
We will be having a Shrimp Boil Cookout on Oct. 4th at 4:00. Also in Nov. on the 15th we will also have a cookout at 4:00. These are our Family cookout and everyone including children are invited to attend. If the weather is cooperating we will eat outside, if not we will be eating in the back hall. Come out and enjoy we always have terrific food. If you possibly can, bring in a covered dish.
Also if anyone is having a Holiday get together, don't forget that we rent out the back hall. For Members the hall is $100.00, the kitchen if needed is an additional $25.00. The deposit is $100.00 and will be totally refunded if the hall is back in order. With a recommendation from a member it can be rented by a non-member for $150.00. Book early because we are already getting rental for the holidays. Any questions feel free to call the Legion at 918-456-6768 and talk to either Carl or Nancy.
The Wednesday potlucks are still doing great. Bring a covered dish and join us for fun and friends. The donation can, we have at the dinners is to benifit the Vets at the VA Hospital in Muskogee. We would like to again make the Christmas baskets for them, but we could use some donations. Last year we included small shampoo, soap, (the ones from motels) emery boards, socks, t-shirt, breifs, playing cards. Anything you can donate would be much appreciated.
The Legion along with The Auxiliary will be hosting our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner this year. We again will have a Holiday Festival. It will be held on Dec. 6th. Watch for more details in the next newsletter. Thanks again

It is August and our Legion is doing great things. The heat has been terrible, but we are holding on. First off we would like to express our sympathy to our fellow Legionnaire Jerry Gay in the loss of this wife. Jerry has done so much for the Legion to update our Weapons for our Honor Guard and get them back to regulation. Thanks for that.
In August the meeting for the Aux. will be at 6:00 right before the regular Legion meeting on Aug. 14th. We would like to have a Family cookout on August 30th. We are thinking of having Rog do smoked ribs and maybe some BBQ chicken with it, if you'll bring a side it should be a great feed. Because of the heat we will not be able to be outside, but we will have the dinner in the back hall, which is air conditioned. Our last cookout on the calender was the 26th of July and we had around 45 people that had a great time, great food and alot of great company to correspond with. Sometime this month we will be expanding the parking area AGAIN. This is a good sign that we have people that love the Legion and the company it holds. We will be closed Monday Sept. 1st which is Labor Day. The meeting for the Aux. and for the Legion is on Sept. 11th at the regular time. Also we will be starting the Turkey Shoots on the 13th at 9:00 am. We will also have the regular Family Cookout at 4:00. Bring a side and just have fun.
We have more clean up inside and out, but it will have to wait until this weather chills a bit. Also football season is among us, come in to watch your favorite team.

To Art Hall for his back hoe work and to Charlie Jordon for his mower work. Also to everyone else who helped with the clean-up day. If you haven¢t come out to check out your post lately, you should because it is really looking wonderful. We also want to thank Frank Carlson for donating the Military Base and Military Medals posters, and Tommy Thompson for making the frames.
We now have the divisions of the Military Branches Flags and poles up. Thanks to Bill Johnson Jr. for donating the flags, and to many members that donated the money to supply the legion with 6 more flag poles. If you would like to help with purchasing an extra set flags feel free to stop in and donate something. Just ask the bartender and they will help you.
With the nice weather here, we are planning some cookouts and other activities outside. Thanks to Rog Faber for donating a cooler for the outdoor patio area. Some days are just too nice to sit indoors.
Flag Retirement day was on June 14th at dusk. If you missed it, we had a great turn out for the ceremony, and everyone there was very apprieative that Post 135 had the ability to hold the ceremony.
Our Wednesday night potlucks are still going well. We have potluck every Wed. at 6:00. Bring a dish and join us. Any ideas for a theme are very welcome just talk to Bill Johnson, if you have any ideas. If you don¢t have time to make a dish just come on down and eat and enjoy the company.
The Service Officer is at the Legion every Tuesday from 12:00-3:00. If you have something the officer can help with stop in and talk to him.
Don't forget the fish fry at Freda and Charlie Jordon's on June 21st at 6:00 at their house. The Post will close at 6:00 that evening so that all members can join the fun and fellowship that evening. If you would like to bring a dish do so, if not that is fine too. Take a lawn chair and have fun which include the band that evening.
June 28th, we will also have a cookout at 4:00 in the afternoon and also on July 26th. Each cookout day we will be having an outside patio lounge for all to enjoy, weather permitting.
For all members information we will be closed on the 4th of July. The next monthly meeting is on July10th at 7:00. That¢s it for now. Come see us.

Note from the 2ND Vice: Carl Adams
My job is to keep this place running smoothly. It has been quite trying since the power surge on Feb. 13. It seems the problems are not ending ever since. Hopefully after this coming week we will be fixed up.
Once a month we will be having a Jam Session. It will be held on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 3:00. If you can play or sing come on down and join the fun. Even if you don't, come in anyway. We have had a couple of trial ones already and they were very exciting.
There will be a Fish Fry on March 8 at 3:00 for our members, weather permitting. Just bring a side dish and an appetite.
We will be having our annual St. Patrick's day Party on the 15th. Tickets are on sale now for $5.00/couple and $3.00/single. Buy your tickets in advance so we know how much food Nancy needs to purchase and cook. It you were at the party last year you will remember the great food and fun had by all. If you weren't there last year you missed out and make a point in trying to make it this year.
On the 29th of March we will be having a major clean-up inside and out for the District Convention that will be held on April 5th at our Post. We will begin the clean-up at 10:00 am. Bring your brooms, mops and cleaning supplies and your strong body's to help. Or just bring yourself and we will provide the rest. All help will be greatly appreciated to make your Legion beautiful. After all the hard work is done, we will order in pizza for all the hard workers.
We are very honored to have the District Convention at Post 135. The meeting begins at 9:00 with a fish fry following at 2:00. Be proud of your post and plan on attending.
We would like to thank Chasidy P. for keeping us in mind when she heard about the Copier that the Copy Shop wanted to donate to someone. She went to bat for us and we now have a nice copier.
Also thanks to Rog Faber we have a new steel door installed in the back room and also for taking the time to find us the deal on the flat screen TV. Rog has done alot of job most of us can't do around here. He is a big help and always volunteers his time and tools for the job.
We would also like to thank David Lowry for giving us such a great deal on our new Flat Screen TV when our very old TV went out.
There will be a cook-out on the 29th of April for our members. If you want to know what's cooking you will just have to come to the American Legion Post 135 on that Sat. to see.

REMEMBER the legion's New Year's Eve Party on Monday the 31st of December. Bring a snack and enjoy the evening. If you want to have a driver pick you up and take you home let Nancy the Bartender know in advance. There is someone available to do this task. If you want to call and make a reservation the phone number is 456-6768. Just let us know.
Something new we would like to try in 08' would be pizza and game day. This will take the place of our monthly cook-out due to the season. We have the cards, so come on in with your boardgames or any kind of game and have a bunch of fun. Take along a snack and around 5:00 we will order in some pizza. Check the calendar insert for the dates.
The Wednesday potluck for the Vets is going over very well. We have dinner around 5:45 for the working people to be able to get there to enjoy. We wish more of our members would be able to attend and enjoy the social hour of friends and family. Remember you do not have to bring a dish. Just come out and enjoy the fellowship. We try to plan a theme so that we have a variety of dishes, but bring whatever you enjoy or bring yourself and just enjoy. Check the attached calender to see what is cooking. Also any help with the cleanup is very much appreciated by the bartender and the officers. Come and enjoy the evening, Good eats and great fellowship.
I would like to cook Chili for the members on January 26 since it is Winter and we can't have a Fish Fry. We as Legioneer's have had a great Summer with a cook-out every month. It has been a great success and with many people helping it has been fun. We will try to have it ready at 5:00 and while ya'll are waiting have some cards or games or whatever until that time. OH, and if you think your chili is better go ahead and take a pot and we will just see. Every member is invited to join us for the fun and games.
NOTICE THE MEETING IS ON FEB. 13 DUE TO VALENTINES ON THE REGULAR MEETING NIGHT!!! IT WILL BE ON WED. INSTEAD OF THURSDAY IN FEBRUARY!!!!!
Our yearly Mardi Gras party, which was a great success in 07' we are hoping to make it even bigger this year! It will be held on Feb. 16th. There will be authentic Cajun food served that evening, all the meat and etc. coming from New Orleans. We may possibly have a band and there will be lots of beads and things from Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Don't miss the fun. Call and get the information 456-6769, tickets must be purchased in advanced, so we know how much food to cook.

Notes from the 2nd Vice:
Everything is coming together very nicely for the Halloween Free Kids Carnival. We will be having 8 booths of games and also a food court. Each child will get to play at each booth and also enjoy two free food items. Everyone is urged to bring in the kids and grandkids. It is from 6-8pm.
Don't forget that we have a Turkey Shoot every Saturday at 9:00 sharp! Come out and enjoy yourselves and do some winning.
We have decided to combine our Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner this year. The Holiday Festival will be held on December 8th at 5:00. We would like everyone to bring a dish. We will have a sheet hanging up at the Legion to sign up on or if you would rather call with the dish that you will be bringing that would be fine also. The phone number is (918)456-6768. The meat is already taken care of. If you would let us know if you are attending we will have a better idea of how much meat we need. Thanks.

The capsule pot is up over $400.00. If you are a paid up member and come to the legion and sign in for $1.00 you could be the winner. Each day at 7:00 we draw out a capsule with a name in it. If that person was in that day to sign in they get the money less the legions percentage. Come on in a sign up.

From the 2nd Vice Carl Adams:The Wed. Night Potlucks for our Veterans is doing wonderful. Every week the dishes aregetting more and more and tastier. Please come out and join us. If you don't have timeto make a dish come out anyway, there is always plenty of food to go around. EveryTuesday we have a Service Officer at the American Legion to help out anyone that ishaving a problem past or present. Both of the officers do a wonderful and caring job intheir efforts to help and answer questions from 12:00-3:00. Our turkey shoots are startingon the 8th and to start it off with a BANG there will be a fish fry and on the 22nd there willbe a crawfish fry and boil. Bring along a side dish if possible. On the 26th please bring whatever meat you would like to grill with a side dish. Each month we would like to honorour birthday members on the last Saturday of the month with a birthday cake. If yourbirthday is during the month please join us in celabrating your birthday on the last Saturdayand get a 1/2 price beverage of your choice. The General Meeting and the Auxilary will bemeeting each month on the second Thursday at 7:00, so come on in and have a voice. Then for Oct. on the 6th will be frozen Drink Day. Bring your blender and something tomake a special drink like strawberries, Mangos, bannanas, you get the idea. Also asnack to go with the drinks would be great. On the 20th there will be a cookout so justbring a side. On the 31st there will be a Kids Carnival hosted by the Women's Auxilary startingat 6:00. There will be games and prizes etc. for the kids. Come out and join us, be sure thatyou are in costume that day and evening. Come into the lounge and check out all the funfootball things we do and also out capsules. If you want to know what is going on at theAmerican Legion you have to stop in to know. We would also like to thank Ruby Baldridgefor the real nice walker that she donated to the Legion. If you or some one you know needsa walker, crutches, or other equipement we do have a few things that we do loan out.

From 2nd Vice Carl Adams:
As for our Wednesday Evening Potlucks they are going great!!! We have a pot luck every Wednesday to honor our Veterans. We put out a donation can at each one to collect money for socks, T-shirts, and briefs for the Vets in the VA Hospital in Muskogee. Bill Johnson is so kind and caring to take care of this project for us. Thank you Bill.
Check the Calendar for our theme each week. Each week everyone is asked to take a dish with the theme in mind.
On grill night please bring whatever meat you would like to grill and a side dish.
Carnival Dinner please take a dish that is something you could get at a carnival such as Hot Dogs, Corn dogs, Funnel cake you get the idea, right.
Please bring a side for the Hamburger Cookout. We will be having more cookouts when the weather cools down a bit, probably in September.
We will have a cake on Birthday Saturday to celebrate the birthdays of all of the members that have a birthday in August. Also watch your next months newsletter to see the date of our first Turkey Shoot.
Now the really exciting thing we have a NEW FLAGPOLE!!!!!!!!! Come down and check it out. Thanks Carl

1st we will be closed JULY 4th!!!
Don't forget our Wednesday Potluck dinners to honor our vets! We will be closed the first Wed. of July the 4th, but here is our menu for July:
July 11: Grill/Potluck Bring the meat you would like to grill along with a side dish.
July 18: Garden Fresh Potluck Bring a dish!
July 25th: Breakfast Menu. Bring something to go with Biscuits and sausage gravy!
August 1st: Cajun Food Bring something Cajun!
July 20th: Carl is planning a cookout. Bring a side dish and come eat with the legionnaires at 2:00.
July 28th as always is our Birthday Saturday! If you have a July birthday come on out and celebrate with everyone with birthday cake!
Rental Information:
For our members we rent out the back hall/or shelter for any event that you may need more room for.
Members Rental fee is $50.00 with a $100.00 deposit for the key and cleanup.
If you need access to the kitchen and Ice machine it is an extra $25.00.
If as a member you want to reference a non member to rent the hall it is $100.00 for them to rent the deposit and kitchen are the same as above.
Come on over to the Legion Post 135 and check out the huge improvements being made. We have a great new parking area that is wonderful.
Thanks to our volunteers for all There help Art, Rog and Charlie have really put in allot of time and help using their own equipment. The Post really appreciates everything they have done. Carl A.

Important Dates from the 2nd Vice Carl Adams:
The bar is now open 6 days a week from 12noon till 8:00pm Monday thru Saturday. Join Us.
Every Wednesday Night we have a Pot luck dinner to honor our Vets @ 5:30. The month of June the menu is as follows: June 6: Will be a Cookout. Bring your favorite meat and a side dish. June 13: will be Italian Night, bring a dish. June 20: will be Mexican night, bring a side dish and June 27: will be Southern cooking, bring a dish and come out and enjoy the wonderful dinners we have.
Gals: Interested in joining the Auxiliary come on out to eat on the 13th and Wes our great commander will be here to entice each of you at a little get together at 7:00. Please come and join us!!!!!
June 16th: We will have a clean-up day. Gals take a pair of gloves and help set up the kitchen, which now has a new floor yeah!!!! Guys bring a rake and help make this place beautiful. After everyone works hard and helps, Carl will cook burgers and stuff to feed our hungry exhausted bodies.
Anyone that would like to donate kitchen items is very welcome. We need Pots, Pans, cookie sheets, cake pans, dish towels and dish clothes. Anything would very much be appreciated.
Birthdays: Each month we would like to start celebrating birthdays. In June it will be on Saturday June 30th @ 2:00 we will have birthday cake, and maybe something else. Any member that has a birthday in June is entitled to a half price beverage of their choice that day.
Mark your calendars for all these important dates at the American Legion Post 135. Make sure you can attend all these great events. Thanks Carl
